One day, I lay down on the beach and looked for a stone that would fit in my belly button.
I picked up a few stones and put one in my belly button at a time.
One of the stones fit perfectly into my belly button.
The stone had absorbed a lot of the sun's heat, and the heat slowly spread from the center of my body.
It was a strange and happy feeling, as if the earth and my body were connected again.
– Kyun Chome (Statement for the Kurobe City Art Museum solo exhibition Blue is the Color of the Soul, 2023)
Kyun Chome, known for a humorous and poetic approach, explores ways to connect with the sea in this exhibition.
The artist swims holding a bag with a goldfish and invites audiences to walk with the sea.
The small sea sampled from Jeju’s Gimnyeong Beach symbolizes the ever-flowing waters uniting the planet's oceans.
This interaction offers a fresh perspective on our connection to Earth.
